Aramean soldiers misled 

2 Kings 6:8 - 6:23

Once again there was war between the unnamed King of Aram and an unnamed King of Israel.

The Arameans became very frustrated because it appeared that the Israelites always anticipated their movements. The King became convinced that one of his officers must be traitor who was revealing his plans to the enemy (2 Kings 6:8-11). But he was wrong. It was God who was revealing their plans to Elisha, who would then issue warnings to the King of Israel.

The Aramean officers informed their king of what Elisha was doing (2 Kings 6:12). Determined to put an end to this, the king sent an army with chariots and horses to capture Elisha (2 Kings 6:13-14). But this attempt would be no more successful than Ahaziah’s attempt to arrest Elijah (2 Kings 1:9-12).

This messenger has already been encountered in Exodus 3:2, when he appeared to Moses in the burning bush. The angel now moves from his position in front of the people to take up a position behind them, where the cloud that accompanies him will act as a screen between them and the Egyptians and keep this army in check all night. He must, however, have already been well known in Israel at the time he appeared to announce the judgment of God for the sins of Ahab and Israel (1 Kings 17:1). The judgment was that there would be no rain or dew for some years as a punishment for the sins mentioned in the previous verses. Elijah must not be thought of as similar to African rainmakers. Stopping or making rain was not his main work.
