2 Kings 4:8-37

A couple in Shunem, a village a few miles north of Jezreel, showed hospitality to Elisha whenever he was passing that way. They even prepared a furnished room for his use (2 Kings 4:8-10).

Showing hospitality to a man of God has its own rewards (Hebrews 13:2), but Elisha wanted to do something to show his appreciation for what they had done (2 kings 4:11-13). She and her husband had no son (2 kings 4:14). As they had no child of their own, it would be a great blessing if they were to have one. The prophet promised that, like Sarah, she would have a son despite the age of her husband.

*19/04/2026* *THIRD SUNDAY SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* CONTINUING PROVISION AND PRESENCE  - God will sometimes overrule the natural order by the miraculous  True Miracles  Red Sea VII Exodus 14:1-31 God uses the east wind to drive back the water so that the Israelites can cross the sea on dry ground. Exodus 14:21-22 Ominously for the Egyptians, this is the same wind that had brought the avery of locusts at the time of the eighth plague (Exodus 10:13). At the end of the plague, God had hurled the locusts into the Red Sea so that ‘not a locust was left’ according to Exodus 10:19. *08/04/2026* *MID WEEK SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* CONTINUING PROVISION AND PRESENCE  - God will sometimes overrule the natural order by the miraculous  True Miracles  Red Sea IV Exodus 14:1-31 Rather than becoming indignant at the people’s reaction and lack of faith, Moses tries to calm the people’s fears saying, *Do not be afraid* (Exodus 14:13a). God himself will later say these same words to the people (Exodus 20:20). They can also be translated as‘stand up straight’ or ‘stay where you are!
