Introduction III 

This was a gift that Elijah could not give, because it was dependent on God (2 Kings 2:10; also Jesus’ answer to the sons of Zebedee - Matthew 20:20-23).

Yet he could say that this request would be granted if Elisha could still see him while he was being taken up. 

*It would appear that he is making the point that a man of God must be able to see the whole picture, both physically and spiritually, if he is to benefit from heavenly gifts*

*19/04/2026* *THIRD SUNDAY SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* CONTINUING PROVISION AND PRESENCE  - God will sometimes overrule the natural order by the miraculous  True Miracles  Red Sea VII Exodus 14:1-31 God uses the east wind to drive back the water so that the Israelites can cross the sea on dry ground. Exodus 14:21-22 Ominously for the Egyptians, this is the same wind that had brought the avery of locusts at the time of the eighth plague (Exodus 10:13). At the end of the plague, God had hurled the locusts into the Red Sea so that ‘not a locust was left’ according to Exodus 10:19. *08/04/2026* *MID WEEK SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* CONTINUING PROVISION AND PRESENCE  - God will sometimes overrule the natural order by the miraculous  True Miracles  Red Sea IV Exodus 14:1-31 Rather than becoming indignant at the people’s reaction and lack of faith, Moses tries to calm the people’s fears saying, *Do not be afraid* (Exodus 14:13a). God himself will later say these same words to the people (Exodus 20:20). They can also be translated as‘stand up straight’ or ‘stay where you are!
