Exodus 3:1-10

The place where God chose to reveal himself was Mount Horeb, also known as Mount Sinai (Exodus 3:1).

Later, God would reveal himself to Moses again in the same location and give him his law (Exodus 19:20; 24:13-18). Infact, God promised Moses such a meeting in Exodus 3:12.

Here God attracts Moses’ attention by using a strange sight - a bush that burns without burning up (Exodus 3:2-3).

The fire is said to represent the angel of the Lord, that is, the angelic form in which God at times reveals himself to humans (Exodus 3:4; Genesis 16:9).

In Exodus 19:18, fire will again symbolize the presence of God.

However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content.
