- Like Jacob, we may be unaware of God’s presence II

Genesis 28:16

Rebekah had promised that she would send word for him to come back (Genesis 27:45), but he had no guarantee that this could happen - until he learned that the Lord of history was in charge of his movements and was committed to bringing him back.

*The Lord does not promise him that he will not suffer hardship, but does guarantee that no amount of difficulty or frustration will ever prevent the Lord from fulfilling his promises and carrying out his plans*

The Lord’s appearance in this dream was so real and dramatic that Jacob know beyond doubt that this had been no ordinary dream, but that he had truly seen the Lord (Genesis 28:16).

 *01/06/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - The creation of the earth and the near heavens  Genesis 1:1-31 The rest of the chapter is then seen as an expression on the summary of Genesis 1:1. However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content. He did not create the whole universe as a finished product in one grand gesture, but worked to create it.  *19/02/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *SPIRIT - GOD IS A SPIRIT* - thus no graven images, idols  Deuteronomy 5:8 Isaiah 42:8 1 John 5:21 Even when an image functioned as a symbol for deity, it led worshippers away from the true worship of the living God. God reminds us of the name *Yahweh* by which he revealed himself (Exodus 3:14-15) to indicate that he gives his glory only to this person (Isaiah 42:8-9). Jesus will claim to be the only true representative of God (John 14:6-7). Once again addressing his readers as dear children, John exhorts them saying, *keep yourselves from idols*. For him, an idol is not just an object one keeps in one's closet.
