*The LORD is my shepherd*: The word pictures David uses for God come from his own life and experience. He had been a shepherd in his youth (1 Samuel 16:19).

Any disturbance or intruder scares sheep. They are very fearful animals and cannot lie down unless they feel totally secure.

*green pasture*: David uses eloquent language to express his view of the abundant care God gives to His people.

*still waters*: Sheep are afraid of fast flowing streams. God’s provision of still waters has a soothing effect and calms the sheep.

 *19/02/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *SPIRIT - GOD IS A SPIRIT* - thus no graven images, idols  Deuteronomy 5:8 Isaiah 42:8 1 John 5:21 Even when an image functioned as a symbol for deity, it led worshippers away from the true worship of the living God. God reminds us of the name *Yahweh* by which he revealed himself (Exodus 3:14-15) to indicate that he gives his glory only to this person (Isaiah 42:8-9). Jesus will claim to be the only true representative of God (John 14:6-7). Once again addressing his readers as dear children, John exhorts them saying, *keep yourselves from idols*. For him, an idol is not just an object one keeps in one's closet.  *01/06/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - The creation of the earth and the near heavens  Genesis 1:1-31 The rest of the chapter is then seen as an expression on the summary of Genesis 1:1. However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content. He did not create the whole universe as a finished product in one grand gesture, but worked to create it.
