- God sustains all things by His Word III

Hebrews 1:3

As God, Jesus holds the universe together by his powerful word, that word spoken when ‘God said’ in Genesis 1 and the universe came into being.

If he withdraw that word, the world would cease to exist. But he does not withdraw it but upholds and directs the world to its divinely ordained destiny (Hebrews 1:3b).

 *01/06/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - The creation of the earth and the near heavens  Genesis 1:1-31 The rest of the chapter is then seen as an expression on the summary of Genesis 1:1. However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content. He did not create the whole universe as a finished product in one grand gesture, but worked to create it.  *19/02/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *SPIRIT - GOD IS A SPIRIT* - thus no graven images, idols  Deuteronomy 5:8 Isaiah 42:8 1 John 5:21 Even when an image functioned as a symbol for deity, it led worshippers away from the true worship of the living God. God reminds us of the name *Yahweh* by which he revealed himself (Exodus 3:14-15) to indicate that he gives his glory only to this person (Isaiah 42:8-9). Jesus will claim to be the only true representative of God (John 14:6-7). Once again addressing his readers as dear children, John exhorts them saying, *keep yourselves from idols*. For him, an idol is not just an object one keeps in one's closet.
