- Creation is attributed to the Son, the Word V

John 1:1-3

Those who argue for the 'a God' translation deny the full deity of Jesus. But throughout his gospel, John strongly affirms Jesus' deity.

In John 1:18 he refer to him as *God the One and Only*, and both he and Jesus approve of Thomas' recognition of Jesus as 'my Lord and my God' ( John 20:28).

Thus at three key points in Jesus' life - eternity (John 1:1), at his incarnation (John 1:18), and after his resurrection (John 20:28) - the deity of Christ is asserted.

However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first".
