9. We keep idols in our heart
Eze.8:5-18; 14:1-3
The people thought that just because the temple stood among them, whatever wrong they might do could not bring ultimate disaster. They thought the temple guaranteed their security. They did not realize that their evil had actually caused God to leave His temple, which would then no longer be their protection.
Polytheistic idolatry was being practiced in Israel.
God revealed to Ezekiel that this group of the elders of Israel consisted of double-minded men.
1 Kings 18:21
Matthew 6:24
James 1:5-8
Outwardly they came to seek a word from God through His true prophet Ezekiel, but in their hearts they harbored loyalties to other gods.
God knows all hearts and minds according to Psalms 139:1-6, and He asks Ezekiel a rhetorical question about whether He ought to give revelatory guidance to such religious hypocrites.
Ezekiel 14:4,5
