PRIVATE PRAYER 


Jesus as our example 

Matthew 14:23; 26:36,39

Mark 1:35

Luke 9:18,19

Jesus sent the disciples off on a boat journey to the other side.

Matthew says that Jesus compelled the disciples to leave while he dismissed the crowd.

This may have become necessary because a dangerous situation had arisen, which Jesus had to deal with alone.

John tells us that the people wanted to force Jesus to become a political king because they realized that he must be the prophet whom Moses had promised 

John 6:15

Such premature political fervour would prejudice Jesus' mission and confuse his call to go to the cross.

Jesus himself retired to the mountain to pray.

The Gospels show him to be a person of prayer.
