3. He is to be thanked and praised.

Matthew 6:9

God's name should always be held in honour and not used casually.

In praying *hallowed be your name*, we are asking that we, Jesus' followers, will treat his name as holy, and cause it to be treated like that by others. Using God's name in any other way is wrong. God's name is not a swear word or an exclamation mark. We must use it with awe and reverence, despite the intimacy of our relationship.
