At the height of the Medo - Persian Empire, a he-goat representing the Kingdom of Greece (Daniel 8:21) swept across from the west so fast that it seemed to be crossing the whole earth without touching the ground (Daniel 8:5).

It attacked the ram and broke both its horns. The prominent horn on the goat represents Alexander the Great, a great military strategist whose armies advanced swiftly. He defeated the Persians, and swept on towards India. While returning to Babylon from the east, he took ill and died in June 323 B.C. at the age of thirty two.

Thus the prominent horn was broken according to Daniel 8:22.

After a lengthy power struggle, Alexander's great empire was divided among four of his generals

1. Cassander received Macedonia and Greece to the West.

2. Lysimachus, Thrace and much of Asia Minor to the north.

3. Seleucus, Syria and vast regions to the east; and

4. Ptolemy, Egypt to the south.
