THE SECOND NATION

The second empire - the chest and arms of silver according to Daniel 2:32 was Medo - Persia.

Daniel 5:28; 8:20; 11:2

As silver is inferior to gold, so Medo - Persia was inferior to Babylon, not in size but in its effectiveness in governing its people.

If the lion with eagle's wings represents Babylon according to Daniel 7:4, the bear - in line with Nebuchadnezzar's first dream - represents Babylon's successor, the Medo - Persian Empire (the second world empire)

Daniel 2:38,39

The Persians were greater and more powerful than the Medes.

The Medo - Persians devoured three Kingdoms including Babylon, Lydia and Egypt.

The ram also represents Medo - Persia according to Daniel 8:20.

The two horns in Daniel 8:3 symbolize the people of Media and the people of Persia.

The Medes and Persians conquered Babylon in 539 B.C.

Daniel 5:26-31

Cyrus and his successors conquered westward including Babylon, Syria and Asia Minor, northward including Armenia and the Caspian Sea region, and southward including Egypt and Ethiopia.
