Genesis 4:16-17


*The line of Cain: Multiplication of evil*

In the land of Nod, away from the Lord's presence, Cain raised a family.

Where did Cain find his wife? Genesis 4:17a.

According to Genesis 5:4, after the birth of Seth, Adam had 'other sons and daughters '.

The logical conclusion is that Cain married one of his sisters. Such marriages were not prohibited during these early days because God accepted that they would be necessary for a period of time, even though God later condemned the marriage of brothers and sisters. Leviticus 18:6-18.

In the larger family tree in Genesis 5, it is Seth's line that is followed and not Cain's.

*Sin harms individuals and families by putting them in a place they would not have been in if they had followed the way of righteousness.*

Psalms 1:1-4.

Heads of families need to keep this warning in mind. Our actions will affect our children and their children.

*Nevertheless, we do not need to suppose that all of Cain's descendants lived outside of the Lord's will, for the grace of God supersedes human evil*
