Two thousand years ago a man appeared on the scene of history. He was born into the world and grew up into manhood just like every other person, but this man was different to anyone else. He was no ordinary man.

A virgin conceived by the Holy Spirit to bring Him to birth. He was God, Himself, coming to the earth in human form. He was the "Son of God" according to Luke 1:26-35.

*"In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and lived for a while among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth "*

John 1:1,14.


*The Prophecies of Jesus' Birth*

1. The Messiah would be the seed of a woman.

Genesis 3:15

Galatians 4:4

2. The Messiah would be a descendant of Abraham.

Genesis 12:3

Matthew 1:1

3. The Messiah would be a descendant of Isaac.

Genesis 17:19

Luke 3:34

4. The Messiah would be a descendant of Jacob.

Numbers 24:17

5. The Messiah would be a descendant of Judah.

6. The Messiah would be an heir to the throne of David.

7. The Messiah would be anointed and eternal.

Psalms 45: 6,7; Hebrews 1:8-12

8. The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.

9. The Messiah would be born of a virgin.

10. The Messiah's birth would trigger a slaughter of children.

11. The Messiah would also come from Egypt.

*The word *Messiah* means " anointed ". The Greek equivalent of the word is the title *Christ*.

*In the first century, the Jews looked for a Messiah who would deliver the nation from Roman domination, become their King and rebuild the nation of Israel to its former glory. By looking for a military deliverer and a political Messiah, the Jews minimized the messianic roles of prophet and priest.* *Thus many Jews rejected Jesus as the Messiah because He came as a humble spiritual Saviour and not a conquering political ruler*

The Greek name *Iesous* is the equivalent of the Hebrew name *Yeshua*, meaning " The Lord Shall Save". Although a common name among the Jews (Luke 3:29; Colossians 4:11), the name expresses Jesus' work on earth - to save and to deliver.
