God brought Elijah a cake and water, even as He had provided for him in earlier days (1 Kings 17).

Although *the angel of the LORD* can at times refer to God Himself (Exodus 3:2-6), in the Book of Kings it means a supernatural messenger (2 Kings 1:3; 19:35)

As it frequently does in the Scriptures, *Horeb* refers to Mount Sinai itself, "the mountain of God" (Exodus 3:1).
