The King Darius called out to Daniel, addressing him as a servant of the living God (Daniel 6:20). He recognizes that Daniel continually serves his God, and that God is 'living' as opposed to 'dead' idols. It is also clear that he had at least some expectation that Daniel would be delivered (Daniel 6:20). He was overjoyed when Daniel responded (Daniel 6:23). Daniel had no doubt that it was the Lord who had protected him (Daniel 6:22). His heroic faith is commended in the New Testament, Hebrews 11:33.

Daniel was undoubtedly a man of prayer. Four of the twelve chapters record him praying. Some 125 of the 356 verses in the book deal with Daniel's prayer. In chapter 2 he prayed until God revealed the King's dream. In chapter 6 he prayed and the angel shut the lion's mouths. It is no surprise that his prayer was used against him by his enemies in chapter 6, or that he was highly esteemed in heaven's throne room (Daniel 9:23; 10:11,18). *For Daniel, prayer was work!.  It should be so for us too. He prayed until there was a breakthrough. He never gave up!* Here he continued to pray until an angel, Gabriel, brought him an answer in the form of a third vision, the scope of which gives us a glimpse of Daniel's heart for God. Interestingly, Daniel was given insight to understand the vision before it was even revealed (Daniel 9:22-23).
