They had become a nation of about a million people. God led them out of Egypt in a miraculous way, with Moses as their leader. By night He gave them light from a pillar of fire, and by day He shaded them from the heat with a cloud. One time after the Israelites had spoken against God and against Moses, the Lord sent "fiery serpents" (poisonous snakes) into their camp as a punishment (Numbers 21:6) They bit the people. There was much weeping and crying among them, for it was a painful, deadly bite. I make no excuses. I do not try to make myself look better than I am. I tell him I have sinned. I plead for His forgiveness. I stand helpless before Him. I cannot wash myself. He gladly forgives and washes me. *By faith, I know I am a child of God* I know His promises are true. In my heart, I accept that I am forgiven. *This is the walk of faith* When I realize this, I praise God from a grateful heart. I was helpless. He set me free. Praise God! How restful it is to trust in an unchanging God who is from everlasting to everlasting. He loves us and will always care for us.  So why worry and fret? 1 Peter 5:7 *"Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you"* We also have the promise, *"Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee"* Isaiah 26:3 With Jesus Christ in your heart, your search for peace is over. Iesous) SUB-TOPIC: *THE MESSIAH* MAJOR OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES OF THE MESSIAH Malachi 4:5 *Elijah the prophet* The story of the prophet Elijah is found in 1 Kings 17 to 2 Kings 2. The New Testament identifies John the Baptist as this Elijah according to Matthew 11:14; 17:10; Mark 9:11-13 and Luke 1:17. There are 3 ways in which this prophecy might be fulfilled: 1. John the Baptist, whom Malachi had already prophesied (Malachi 3:1), was the first to fill the promise of the Elijah figure. *John, like Elijah, was a minister of the Lord calling people to repent and prepare for the coming of the Messiah (Matthew 11:14)* 2. Elijah appeared in person along with Moses at the Transfiguration, a stunning vindication of *the messianic role of Jesus* (Matthew 16:28-17:8) 3. An Elijah-like figure will appear at the end times; he will call fire down from heaven just as Elijah did in 1 Kings 18:3

This is only possible by a *complete surrender to Christ* Jesus offers light for darkness, peace for strife, joy for sorrow, hope for despair, and life for death. He says in *St John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you... Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid"* *Repentance Brings Peace of Mind* When you feel the heavy load of sin weighing you down, the remedy is to *" Repent... and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19)* When you come to Jesus, you will find forgiveness and freedom.
