The establishment of the *everlasting covenant* that God made with David is recorded in 2 Samuel 7:12-16.

Here and in Psalms 89 are David's celebrations of the covenant in song.

This rhetorical question expresses *David's faith* that God would carry out His promise.

The covenant was based on God's sovereign, unchangeable will.
