SUB-TOPIC: *ANGELS: CREATURES OF GOD*

Nehemiah 9:6
One of the fundamental teachings of Scripture is that God is not one among many; He *alone* is the living God (Deuteronomy 6:4).
*Heaven ... earth ... seas*: God alone has made all things, and He alone preserves all things. Therefore, worship is due Him.
God is incomparable (Numbers 23:8,9; Deuteronomy 4:32-40; Psalms 113:4-6).

2 Kings 19:15,19
*Hezekiah prayed*: Hezekiah knew that there is a greater King than the King of Assyria. Revelation 14:7.

Deuteronomy 10:14
*Heaven and the highest heavens*: The sky and the whole universe belong to God.

Genesis 2:1
While mention is made of the heavens, the focus in the first chapter has been on the earth. Although the earth is not the physical center of the universe, it is the center of God's great creative work.

Psalms 36:6
*great mountains ... great deep*: The contrasts continue with David ranging from the highest mountains to the depths of the sea to describe the perfect character of God. The height of the great mountains can be compared to how great God's righteousness is; the depth of the seas can be compared with how mysterious and inaccessible God's true judgments are. The word *deep* is also used in Genesis 1:2.

Colossians 1: 16
This early Christian hymn emphasizes the superiority of Christ over all creation. Christ is the One who created all things, whether they be material or immaterial, seen or unseen. This idea is in direct contradiction to the false teaching, later known as Gnosticism, that was developing in the Colossian church. In general, Gnostics believed that various angelic beings were the creators of the earth, and that Christ was one among many of these angels.
*all things were created through Him and for Him*: Not only did Jesus create all things, everything was created for His purposes (Hebrews 1:2, where Christ is said to be the "heir of all things").
But the glory of the earth, the heavens, or the sun, moon and stars cannot be compared with the glory of His new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Hebrews 1:2-3
*made the worlds*: The Greek word for worlds can also mean "ages". Thus worlds indicates the entire created universe, all space throughout all time. The Son is the Lord of all history. He has managed the universe throughout its history as Mediator under the Father.
*Upholding* means "bearing" or "carrying", referring to movement and progress toward a final end. The Son not only created the universe by His powerful word but also maintains and directs its course. He is the Governor of the universe. The laws of nature are His laws, and they operate at His command.
The glory of redemption is far greater than the glory of creation.

Job 38:1-7
The joyful response of the *morning stars*, personified as singing, and *the sons of God* (Job 1:6) as eyewitnesses to the earth's creation contrast with Job's complaints that were spoken in ignorance.

*Confession*
Lord you are God, not one among many, but the only living God.
You made all things and you preserve all things.
Give me the strength and courage to see you greater than all my pains and agony.
I surrender all to you, intervene as you did to your servant Job.

The creation of the earth and the heavens

 *01/06/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - The creation of the earth and the near heavens  Genesis 1:1-31 The rest of the chapter is then seen as an expression on the summary of Genesis 1:1. However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content. He did not create the whole universe as a finished product in one grand gesture, but worked to create it. This second view fits with the description of the earth as *formless and empty* and of darkness over the surface of the deep. Genesis 1:26 *Let Us make* emphasizes the majesty of the speaker. Furthermore, the use of a plural for God allows for the later revelation of the Trinity. Genesis 11:7 Matthew 28:19 The *Us* cannot refer to the angels that are present with God because man is made in the image of God alone, not also that of the angels. *in Our image*: What is the image of God in man?
