The creation of the earth and the heavens

*01/06/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - The creation of the earth and the near heavens  Genesis 1:1-31 The rest of the chapter is then seen as an expression on the summary of Genesis 1:1. However, it is also possible that those words outline the first step in creation, with the words *in the beginning* being equivalent to "first". The idea then would be that the first thing God did was to create the raw shell ( heaven and earth) and then for six days he filled that shell with content. He did not create the whole universe as a finished product in one grand gesture, but worked to create it. This second view fits with the description of the earth as *formless and empty* and of darkness over the surface of the deep. WHAT DOES GOD DO?

*28/05/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* TOPIC: *WHAT DOES GOD DO?* INTRODUCTION  - In the beginning God created the heavens  Genesis 1:1 The account of God's creation of the world establishes two key points that apply throughout the book of Genesis and throughout the Bible. The *first* is that God was uniquely involved in the origin of the earth and the sky. They do not exist by themselves and are not the result of impersonal forces or other spiritual beings. The *second* is that because the world is God's creation, it reveals him and is subject to his will. The first verse of Genesis can be read as a summary statement that God created everything - the heavens and the earth and everything in them. This is probably when the angels were created. *©2025* *Ecumenican Church Nigeria ®* Instagram: *@ecumenicanchurch* WhatsApp/Telegram: *+2348052366039* Email: *johnifesanya@gmail.com* *www.johnifesanya.blogspot.com* *#ECN Ibadan #* Powered by *JDIS*

worship and obey only Him V

*25/05/2025* *ANOINTING HEALING AND COMMUNION SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - worship and obey only Him V Exodus 20:2-3 Hebrews 5:9 God's reminder of their slavery in Egypt in Exodus 20:2 was also a reminder that he had defeated all the gods of Egypt through the ten plagues. Here God lays claim to the same exclusivity that Jesus speaks of when he says 'No one can serve two masters ' according to Matthew 6:24. The words of this commandment can be equally well translated 'no other gods against me ' or 'besides me' or 'above me '. The wide range of possibilities in the Hebrew covers all the options when it comes to other gods. Jesus' obedience to the Father led to Calvary, His own death on the Cross. The sacrifice of this sinless One in our place makes Him the source of our salvation. *©2025* *Ecumenican Church Nigeria ®* Instagram...

worship and obey only Him IV

*21/05/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - worship and obey only Him IV Exodus 20:2-3 Hebrews 5:9 The first commandment states that Israel has only one choice when it comes to worship  Exodus 20:3 The people had been slaves for several hundred years in Egypt, where there were many gods. The idea that there was only one God would have been new, introducing a revolutionary approach to worship, and was an innovation that became institutionalized with this commandment. *©2025* *Ecumenican Church Nigeria ®* Instagram: *@ecumenicanchurch* WhatsApp/Telegram: *+2348052366039* Email: *johnifesanya@gmail.com* *www.johnifesanya.blogspot.com* *#ECN Ibadan #* Powered by *JDIS*

worship and obey only Him III

*18/05/2025* *THIRD SUNDAY SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - worship and obey only Him III Exodus 20:2-3 Hebrews 5:9 There is some disagreement about how the Ten Commandments should be numbered. Some people argue that Exodus 20:3, about having no other gods, is the first commandment and that Exodus 20:4-6, condemning idols, is the second. Others argue that all of these verses have to do with one commandment, which is being elaborated at length. Similarly, Exodus 20:16-17, which speaks of relations between neighbors, may be considered one commandment or two. The first four commandments deal with Israel's relationship with God, and the remainder with relationships between people. *©2025* *Ecumenican Church Nigeria ®* Instagram: *@ecumenicanchurch* WhatsApp/Telegram: *+2348052366039* Email: *johnifesanya@gmail.com* *www.johnifesanya.blogspot.com* *#ECN Ibadan #* Powere...

worship and obey only Him II

*14/05/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - worship and obey only Him II Exodus 20:2-3 Hebrews 5:9 Like other ancient treaties, this one begins with a reminder of the historical links between the two parties to the treaty: *I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the land of slavery* Exodus 20:1-2 But then it continues with succinct statements that reveal God's nature and set out his will for his people. God has committed himself to them and has acted to fulfill the promises he made to the patriarchs, and he expects a similar commitment from his people. He wishes to have his people serve as a model, communicating his truths to the nations. To be equal to this responsibility and to live as an example of what the kingdom of God can be on earth, they must learn exclusive obedience to the Lord, their liberator. They must lea...

worship and obey only Him

*11/05/2025* *SECOND SUNDAY SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - worship and obey only Him Exodus 20:2-3 Hebrews 5:9 God addresses the people directly, speaking what in Hebrew are known as the *Ten Words* according to Deuteronomy 4:13;10:4 or in Greek as the Decalogue (from the Greek deka logos meaning 'ten words '). In English, these are referred to as the Ten Commandments. What is happening here is modelled on the treaty texts of the ancient Near East. Ancient treaties were similar to those that were made in ancient Africa between a king of a powerful nation and the ruler of a weaker nation. The written text of a treaty set out the details of the new relationship between the suzerain (the powerful king) and his vassal (the weaker nation). The suzerain imposed duties and taxes and demanded obedience and unconditional allegiance. Sometimes these agreements included...

only one way to Him, His way II

*07/05/2025* *MID WEEK SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - only one way to Him, His way II John 14:6 Jesus then tells them the way to reach the Father: *I am the way and the truth and the life* (John 14:6a). They will reach the Father by believing in Jesus. This is Jesus' sixth major *I am* saying (the earlier ones are in John 6:35 and John 6:51;8:12 and 9:5;10:7 and 9;10:11 and 14; and 11:25). Jesus' words here make it very clear that all roads do not lead to Rome, no matter how often we are assured that this is the case. Not all roads lead to possession of eternal life. *Jesus is the God-appointed way.* *©2025* *Ecumenican Church Nigeria ®* Instagram: *@ecumenicanchurch* WhatsApp/Telegram: *+2348052366039* Email: *johnifesanya@gmail.com* *www.johnifesanya.blogspot.com* *#ECN Ibadan #* Powered by *JDIS*

only one way to Him, His way

*04/05/2025* *THANKSGIVING SERVICE* THEME: *THE NATURE OF GOD* (Hebrew pl.'elohim) Text: Genesis 1:1,26 Deuteronomy 7:9 Isaiah 45:18 TOPIC: *UNIQUENESS AND ONENESS OF GOD* - only one way to Him, His way. John 14:6 Thomas, however, was not convinced by Jesus' statement in John 14:4 and protested, *Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?* John 14:5 In reply, Jesus spoke of the destination of the journey and specified how to get there: *No one comes to the Father except through me* John 14:6b Here he makes specific what had only been implied in John 13:36 and John 14:2: the journey is to the Father. That is where Jesus is going, and that is where the disciples will follow later. *Tithes & Offering* Genesis 14:18-20 Account name:  *The Ecumenican Church* Account number: 2280020397 Banker: *Eco Bank Nig.
